Get your tax forms in on time, to avoid penalties and interest

I finally found a way to send IRS forms by FedEx, DHL, or UPS, when you’re living overseas.

Before finding these IRS addresses, I needed to send tax documents to my private mailbox service in the US (Earth Class Mail), and have them forward it by USPS to the IRS.  That added a couple of days and a few dollars to the process.

Now I can send them directly.

If you want to do this too, you need to use one of the approved “private delivery services”.

  1. DHL Express (DHL): DHL Same Day Service; DHL Next Day 10:30 am; DHL Next Day 12:00 pm; DHL Next Day 3:00 pm; and DHL 2nd Day Service;
  2. Federal Express (FedEx): FedEx Priority Overnight, FedEx Standard Overnight, FedEx 2 Day, FedEx International Priority, and FedEx International First; and
  3. United Parcel Service (UPS): UPS Next Day Air, UPS Next Day Air Saver, UPS 2nd Day Air, UPS 2nd Day Air A.M., UPS Worldwide Express Plus, and UPS Worldwide Express.

The complete details are available on this IRS page.

By using FedEx, DHL, or UPS to send your IRS forms, you eliminate the worry of possible delays with normal postal service from overseas (I once had a letter take a month to get from the US to Uruguay).  You can also use the delivery receipt as proof that you sent your forms in by the deadline.
