If you’re thinking about moving to another country, you’ll want to stay up-to-date with the latest news there. It would be great if you could get a daily newspaper, with all the news about the countries you’re looking at.
Fortunately, you can get that with Google Alerts.
Here’s a quick guide to show you how to setup Google Alerts to give you the latest information about anywhere (or anything) you are interested in.
Step 1. Open up your browser and go to www.google.com.
Click on the link that says “More”, and then click on the menu option that says “Even more”.
Getting to the Google Alert option
Step 2. Click on the link that says “Alerts”

Step 3. Fill in the name of the city, or country, you want to hear about. If there’s something you’re not interested in, you can set up your alert to exclude certain words. For instance, if you enter “Uruguay –football” (without the quotes), then you’ll get all the stories about Uruguay that don’t include the word “football” in them.
In the “Volume” setting, Google will have “Only the best results” selected, but I prefer to set it to “All results”.
Once you do this, in the middle part of the screen you’ll see a sample of what Google will send you in your alerts.
Just make sure you spell the name of the location correctly. I’ve seen some people talking about Colombia (the country), but spelling it Columbia (like the University in New York, or the town in South Carolina).

Now you’ll start getting a summary of all the news articles and blog posts that Google finds for your topic. This is a quick and easy way to keep up to date with the countries you’re interested in moving to.
