Happy Anniversary to us!
MovingOverseasBook.com turned one year old today!
Thank you for visiting the site over the last year. It’s been nice seeing that other people are interested in living overseas, and are looking beyond the hype out there.
What’s happened over the last year?
In the last year, I’ve published over 100 articles here. That’s somewhere around 50,000 words written.
I’ve tried to keep a balance between the strategy (philosophy) and the tactics (specific details) of moving overseas – since you’ll need both for a successful move.
What to expect this year
I have plans for several exciting projects to accomplish this year.
I’m close to finishing a new project to help people moving to Paraguay. I’ll announce it here, as soon as it’s ready to use.
I’m working on a few other projects, to give you information about more countries in Central and South America. As happy as I am in Paraguay, it may not be the best country for you. So the more places you can read about, the better choice you can make in your search for a new place to live.
Anniversary presents
The traditional one-year anniversary gift in the US is paper. However, in a digital era, where we read and write on the Internet, I think a website can be a good substitute.
Will you leave a comment below about something you’ve learned here over the last year? It would be nice to hear how this site has helped you with your move overseas.
That would make the best present – knowing that the work of the past year has been valuable to you.
Thanks!
Scott Lilly

I appreciate the detailed descriptions you provide. You have an ability to paint word pictures of what is going on around you as well as what is happening in your mind. I find it interesting when you compare and contrast, for example, Paraguay and Uruguay. Practical details about such things as finance, food and construction are also appreciated.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Rob. After I complete a couple of projects I’m working on right now, I plan to visit some more places. There should be several more locations for you to learn about over the next year.
your website was and has been very helpful in our move to South America. Although we finally chose Ecuador as our final destination, your information was key to making our decision and with little or no regrets. Our biggest hurdle to finding things we needed or wanted once we were here. It still remains a mystery in some cases, however we made friends with our neighbor a local Ecuadorian and when I can’t find something I go and ask if they have such and such in Bahia de Caraquez or not. Ecuadorians are very helpful if it is possible to help you. Anyway my suggestion to anyone moving to a foreign country is try and make a friend with a local, no matter what country you go to and they will be the best help you can find. Our neighbor helps us with our Spanish and we are trying to teach them English……a good thing for all of us. Am happy to hear things are going so well for you and congratulations on your one year anniverary. Thanks for all the info over the year and here’s hoping many more years to come.

Thanks William. You are certainly right about making friends. When we’re in our home country, we’ve got a good base of friends built up over the years. It takes a some time, and a some effort, but making friends in your new country will make life so much more enjoyable.
